FAQs for Tutors

The Tutorfox platform is free for tutors to use. There are no sign-up fees, no subscription fees, you set your own rate and Tutorfox will never take a cut of it.

Absolutely. You can tutor in multiple subject areas if you have the relevant qualifications/experience.

Yes you can. For example as a physics and maths tutor you may wish to charge different amounts for teaching A level physics compared with KS3 maths. When you complete your profile you have the option to add subjects/levels where you can also add a new rate.

We have a thorough approvals process that every tutor must complete before going live on the platform and only tutors with relevant qualifications and experience will be considered. All tutors will need to have their identity verified, right to work checked, relevant qualifications verified, two references acquired, DBS certification verified, and complete an online interview. Tutors will also complete a tutor profile detailing some relevant experience, which will be considered as part of the approvals process. Tutors that are successful will go live on the platform, and will then be able to receive job match notifications which they can then apply for.

All Tutorfox tutors are self-employed. You have full control over the tutoring jobs you take on, the rate you set, the times of your lessons etc. Tutorfox matches you with tutoring jobs relevant to you, and our platform facilitates the communication and booking of lessons, aiming to simplify the admin involved with private tutoring. We’re here to help you connect with students and manage your tutoring business.

No. Your profile information isn't visible to everyone who visits the site. Only when you apply to a tutor request can your information be seen, and it is visible only to the person who submitted the request, giving tutors full control.

FAQs for Students

Whether you’re struggling in a particular subject, wanting to boost your grades, learn to play an instrument or learn a new language, having a private tutor can accelerate your progress. A private tutor can tailor the lessons to your individual needs and help you reach your learning goals. All our tutors are skilled and experienced in their subjects and have all passed our thorough approvals process.

Currently all our lessons are in-person. When we researched locally in the York area, we found that most students were looking for in-person tuition but were struggling to find suitable tutors. While many types of additional support are beneficial, we believe that there’s no substitute for old school one-to-one in-person support.

Absolutely. Tutorfox is suitable for anyone looking for a tutor, whether you are a student, a parent, a school, or any other organisation that requires tutors. You just need to sign up and post a tutor request summarising what you’re looking for. If you have very specific requirements, or you are looking for multiple tutors you may wish to email us at hello@tutorfox.co.uk and we will be happy to help.

It can be really time consuming to search for a tutor. With Tutorfox you simply post a tutor request, and all matched tutors will be notified. Tutors will apply directly to your request, allowing you to connect with those tutors, and arrange lessons directly through the platform.

Generally, when finding a tutor independently students and parents have very little knowledge of the tutor’s background, experience or ability to provide the standard of tuition they’re looking for. We believe parents should be able to make an informed choice when choosing a tutor, so we provide you with access to transparent tutor profiles for all tutors that apply to your tutor request.

We have a thorough approvals process for tutors, ensuring that we maintain high standards. We’ve checked all their credentials, we reference check and interview all our tutors, check their DBS, verify ID and right to work, and we ensure that they have relevant qualifications and experience. So when finding a tutor through Tutorfox you can be confident that you’re getting someone verified, skilled, and suitable for your requirements.

First, you’ll need to sign up on the Request a Tutor page. Then you will be able to post a tutor request, where you’ll tell us the subject, level, general location for lessons, and a brief description of what you’re looking for so that we can match you with suitable tutors. Tutorfox notifies matched tutors, who can then apply to your request. For each tutor that applies you will be able to see their profile, message them directly to discuss your needs in more detail and arrange your lessons. Your chosen tutor will then book your lessons into their calendar and your private tuition can begin.

We have new tutors joining all the time, and whilst the Tutorfox platform does the initial matching, we are always actively helping to manually match you with tutors too. Meaning that if all our current tutors are fully booked when you post your request, you can be sure that we are working hard to find you a tutor and will keep you updated.

Our tutors set their own rates, so the cost of tuition varies depending on the tutor’s experience, subject demand, level etc. You will be able to see the lesson fees for each of the tutors that apply to your tutor request so that you can factor this in when choosing your tutor.

Our fee is a small percentage of the tutor’s hourly rate and is built into the advertised lesson fee so that you know exactly what you will be paying per lesson. There are no additional or hidden fees, the advertised lesson fee is all you will ever pay. Our fee covers the cost of matching you with tutors, use of the platform and the administrative costs involved in our thorough approvals process that ensures all tutors are verified and are of a high standard. We believe that it is a valuable service that we are providing and would like all members to ensure that they are happy with our setup before commencing tuition services through Tutorfox.

This depends on your individual circumstances and learning goals. Most students opt for 1 hour of tuition per week, but this may be more frequent if you are working towards an upcoming assessment for example. When you post your tutor request you will be able to connect with tutors through our messaging system, so this would be a great question to discuss with your chosen tutor. They will be able to offer you some guidance once they know what you are working towards.
